The Scout Update – TF2

Posted by Flambé on 25 February, 2009

The first of many Weekly updates to the blog beginning with Team Fortress 2.

The scout update.

Over the last few days, Valve have been releasing little insights into the Scout Update on their blog about the new community made maps and weapons that will be released. Due to the fact that some of these insights seemed rushed, some of the community was lead to believe that it wasn’t the Scout Update at all, that in fact it was the Spy Update! Who was disguising himself as the Scout!

Earlier today, Valve released the Scout Update onto Team Fortress 2 using Steam. This also meant the servers had to update so the players could connect. On servers without class size restrictions, a “class rush” was experienced where most of the players all joined one class, the Scout in this case, because they wanted to get the new Scout Achievements and Weapons which they’d heard about over the days before. But one thing Valve failed to do was provide a working update as this update has brought many problems to players. One of the main ones being Team Fortress 2 crashing when joining a server. Personally, I have also found more problems like lag in game which wasn’t there before and extremely long loading times when connecting to a server.

To go with this update, Valve have reduced Team Fortress 2’s price in half making it only about £6 (which is around $10) for a week.

I think the Scout Update was a great success if Valve hadn’t of broken Team Fortress 2 itself. But I know Valve will be releasing a fix for that very soon as they’re kind like that!
